

RESIDENT ATHLETES
Train with the resort's Resident Athletes including Mikaela Shiffrin, Alpine Skier and Gold Medalist and Resident Triathlete and XTERRA World Champion Josiah Middaugh. Athletic Club and resort guests can enjoy special events, lectures and workshops from these top athletes.
Mikaela Shiffrin
Born and raised in the Vail Valley, U.S. Ski Team member Mikaela Shiffrin is the reigning three-time Overall World Cup champion and the four-time reigning World Champion in slalom. Shiffrin won her first Olympic gold medal in Sochi, Russia in 2014, making her the youngest slalom champion in Olympic alpine skiing history. At the 2018 Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics, Shiffrin won both a gold medal in giant slalom and a silver medal in the super combined.
Shiffrin trains regularly at the Athletic Club. She also holds exclusive events at the resort where she shares her racing experiences and training tips with guests and local fans.

Josiah Middaugh
Josiah Middaugh is well known throughout the Vail Valley as an elite level, multi-disciplined athlete. Middaugh is a 13-time XTERRA USA World Champion, the 2015 XTERRA World Champion and a 6-time USSSA National Snowshoe Champion. Middaugh coaches the Athletic Club at the resort's Masters Swim program, as well as athletes of all levels and aspirations through his Middaugh Coaching.

Sullivan & Porter Middaugh
Born and raised in the Vail Valley, both Sullivan Middaugh and Porter Middaugh are members of USA Triathlon's Project Podium, a men's elite Olympic Development Program.
While at Battle Mountain High School, Sullivan (right) won the National High School Trail Championships two times. In his pro triathlon debut, Middaugh won the XTERRA National Championship in Beaver Creek and has won back-to-back XTERRA National Championship titles, as well as winning the XTERRA short track in 2024 and 2025.
Porter (left) was named the 2023-24 Gatorade Colorado Boys Cross Country Player of the Year. A Battle Mountain High School graduate, Porter is a two-time XTERRA USA Championship amateur winner who earned First Team All-America honors at the Nike Cross Nationals Final and won the Class 4A State Championship. When they are home in the Vail Valley, the Middaugh brothers train regularly at the Athletic Club at The Westin.
